The Kaled race is dead, consumed in the fires of the Thals' last-ditch missile attack. Only a few are aware that the Chief Scientist was responsible for the destruction of the Kaled city's defences and they are powerless to prevent him from unleashing his creations upon the remaining people of Skaro.
The Mark Three travel machines are the culmination of evolution project, the perfect mechanism for the survival of the mutated Kaleds. Relentless and unstoppable, not only do they exact vengeance upon the Thals, they turn on the survivors in the Bunker, declaring that only they deserve to survive. Kaleds no more, they take the name given to them by their creator, a name from a lost language that simply means 'god'.
