Children of the Revolution

Description

The Eighth Doctor comic strips are really good. They introduce several great new companions, feature the return of the Master, the Toymaker, the Cybermen and more alongside some memorable new villains and monsters and generally have an underlying sense of fun while touching on some very serious issues.

They also feature a story involving the most colourful collection of Daleks ever.

Set years after Evil of the Daleks, 'Children of the Revolution' tells the tale of what became of the Alpha, one of the test subjects for the Human Factor experiment. With the Emperor's forces turning the tide of the battle, Alpha led a group of fellow Human Factor Daleks to escape in a flying saucer. They set up a city under the surface of an ocean planet and set about building a society. Without the desire for conflict and dominance shared by their Skaro brethren, they developed their inherent psycho-kinetic powers to the point of manifesting full-blown telekinesis.

It all ends rather sadly when it turns out they are being used as a food source by a giant telepathic undersea cabbage. But it was fun while it lasted.

So here we have Sukatri, Mikkith, Alpha, Adellus, and two other citizens of Azhra Korr.

I decided to go with the toy colour scheme for Alpha as it is more distinct from the 'normal' red Daleks, and I gave the security chaps in blue a different highlight colour as they were generally shaded darker than the rest.

I doubt I will do orthos for all of them, but I might do them for Alpha and the gunless variants.

Daleks belong to Terry Nation's Estate, they were designed by Ray Cusick and these variants are based on the art of Lee Sullivan for a story by Scott Gray (and a jolly good job they did too!)

Dalek Time Strategist

(Me speaking in a Dalek Time Strategist voice): [in a calm tone] "THE HUMANISED DALEKS ARE ONE OF THE FEW GOOD GUY DALEKS IN THE UNIVERSE." [considers] "HMM....... IT IS POSSIBLE THAT DALEK OMEGA AND A FEW OTHER SURVIVING HUMAN FACTOR DALEKS ARE STILL AT LARGE EVEN WITHOUT THE DALEK EMPIRE KNOWING AS TO WHERE THEIR LOCATIONS ARE. DO NOT WORRY, THEIR SECRET IS SAFE WITH ME AND THE DOCTOR. I AM NOT THE SAME DALEK TIME STRATEGIST AS MY ORIGINAL CLONED TWIN BROTHER PREDECESSOR, WHO FOUGHT AGAINST THE DOCTOR COUNTLESS TIMES DURING THE LAST GREAT TIME WAR."
